BPW Sponsor the Malcolm Team Riding the Road to Change

With over 490 km to cover in 5 days, David Robertson and William McCulloch of Malcolm Logistics, have been hard at work preparing for a marathon cycle challenge across Zambia for transport charity, Transaid, which starts in Lusaka on 21 September and finishes at Victoria Falls on 30 September 2018.

Transforming lives is Transaid’s mission. They achieve this by making safe and sustainable transport available, the kind of transport many of us in the UK take for granted. In rural African communities, where there are no road networks or transport systems, Transaid provide bicycle ambulances to give people much needed access to medical attention. To help the local infrastructure they also train drivers, who can in turn train other drivers. Founded over 25 years ago by Save the Children, The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), and its Patron, HRH. The Princess Royal, this international development organisation in partnership with governments, has helped empower people in 23 countries to build the skills they need to transform their own lives.

Transaid’s Cycle Zambia Challenge is physically demanding and one which David and William have been preparing for by embarking on a gruelling and dedicated training regime, putting in many road miles, often at altitude and in all weathers. Keen cyclists, this will not be their first experience of an epic Transaid Cycle challenge, as they were both in the Malcolm team which took part in Transaid’s biggest ever European cycle challenge, where 58 cyclists from across the transport and logistics industry spent 3 days in the saddle covering the 240 miles from London to Paris.

The motivation behind this next challenge can be best answered by David Robertson pictured right who said “The chance to raise money for Transaid was one I couldn’t turn down and I can’t wait to get going. I’m looking forward to experiencing a totally different culture and cuisine, whilst all the while supporting a great cause.” For William it was “The opportunity to travel to the other side of the world, experience 1 of the 7 wonders of the world and raise money for a great cause was one I just couldn’t refuse! We both loved the London-Paris cycle last year and couldn’t wait to sign up and do it all over again.”

We wish David and William the best of luck! BPW have sponsored the Malcolm team and if you too would like to make a donation, you can do so via the Justgiving page at
