LOWER WEIGHT, SHORTER SERVICE TIME AND LONG LIFE

Even though it is relatively new to the market (November 2009), BPW’s ECO Disc has already proved its credentials as a successful model. More than 100,000 brake calipers have already been produced in BPW’s purpose-built, ultramodern production site in Germany where there are currently more than 1,000 ECO disc brake calipers rolling off the conveyor belt every day.

The compact design of the ECO Disc is significant; the brake caliper is mounted directly to the axle beam and BPW design engineers have eliminated the need for the brake carrier. In addition to the new design being more service-friendly, it has also enabled weight savings of up to 39 kg (80 pounds) in a tri-axle set fitted with ECO Disc series 4309 (ø disc 430 mm, for 9 t axle load).

As with all axles produced by BPW, the ECO Hub is a standard fitment on the ECO Disc. The ECO Hub can be removed as an entire unit which in turn allows the disc to be changed without the need to remove the caliper (except TSB 4312 and TSB 3709 ET=0). On a three axle set this can save an hour of workshop time – an advantage in the workshop and also for the trailer operator.

In order to ensure that the new trailer disc brake met BPW’s high quality standards it was subjected to demanding road testing. Neither icy Polar blasts nor the dust and burning heat of the Australian outback bothered the ECO Disc. One of the factors that make this possible is the innovative internal bellows. These provide enhanced protection from thermal and mechanical damage, shielding the interior of the brake, in particular from dirt and damp penetration. Other measures include additional bellows to seal the guide pins and the bushes from external influences. BPW’s ECO Disc brake is available in three sizes - TSB 3709 (ø disc 370 mm, for 9 t axle load), TSB 4309 (ø disc 430 mm, for 9 t axle load) and TSB 4312 (ø disc 430 mm, for 12 t axle load).
